Personal History

Born and educated in England. Joined the Royal Canadian Airforce in 1964. Passed out Central Officers School, Winter 1964, and Primary Flying School Spring 1965. Graduated from the Jet Flying Training School, Winter 1965, passing out with Pilot Wings from the Advanced Jet Training School, Spring 1966.

Posted to Flying Instructors School, then served a full tour as a Flying Instructor on advanced jet training station. Flew as a Pilot for 343 Fighter Squadron. Test Pilot with Central Experimental and Proving Establishment, Test and Ferry Pilot flight, Posted to 448 (Experimental) Weapons Squadron, Summer 1970. Test Pilot with Aerospace Engineering and Test Establishment, Posted as Station Test Pilot, RCAF Sta. Cold Lake, Alberta, Summer 1972.

During in Winter 1972/73 spent on special assignment to demonstrate Lockheed Silver Stars to Airforces in South America.

Flt. Lt. Haydon-Baillie has flown thirty-five different types of Military Aircraft, most of them in the fighter category. He returned to England in 1974, personally flying privately owned Hawker Sea Fury and two Lockheed Silver Stars across the Atlantic, one after another. His two Bristol Blenheim Bomber’s, were dismantled and shipped across.
